TOKYO, Jul 27 (News On Japan) - Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare have announced the average life expectancy for Japanese people last year, with women having an average life expectancy of 87.14 years, and men 81.09 years, both about half a month higher than the previous year.
This is the first time in three years that the figures have risen, attributed to a decrease in deaths from cancer and COVID-19.
According to the ministry, although direct comparisons are difficult due to different data compilation methods, Japanese women's life expectancy ranks first in the world, while men's ranks fifth, down from fourth the previous year.
