Kiyoshi Hikawa Makes Comeback

Aug 20, 2024 (News On Japan) - Kiyoshi Hikawa made his long-awaited return to the stage on August 17, holding the Tokyo leg of his concert tour at the Tokyo Garden Theater.

This concert marked his first performance in one year and eight months, following his hiatus after appearing on NHK’s ‘Kohaku Uta Gassen’ at the end of 2022.

As Hikawa took the stage to a thunderous applause from the 6,500-strong audience, he was bathed in light and waved with a bright smile, bowing deeply to the crowd. The concert opened with a performance of "WALK," supported by a band that included a string section. During the interlude, he bowed once more and addressed the audience with his first words, “Thank you, everyone, for being here today! Please enjoy yourselves to the fullest.” The venue roared with cheers as the sea of multicolored penlights swayed in unison.

A special guest, Naoto Kine of TM NETWORK, a close friend of Hikawa, also joined the stage for this comeback performance. Together, they delivered a powerful rendition of TM NETWORK’s "SEVEN DAYS WAR," with Kine playing acoustic guitar. Hikawa mentioned that Kine had been a source of encouragement since his second year in the industry.

Throughout the concert, Hikawa performed 32 songs, wearing five different costumes, including a white tailcoat for “Kiyoshi no Zundoko-bushi,” a traditional kimono for “Hakumo no Shiro,” and a daring black see-through outfit for “Genkai Toppa x Survivor.” The concert concluded with Hikawa expressing his heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I will never forget this day. I am truly happy,” as the audience showered him with applause.
