Aug 27 (News On Japan) - Yamada Yu, who secured a medal for the second consecutive time in the Paris Olympics fencing men's epee team event, returned to his hometown in Mie Prefecture on August 27.
Yamada, a native of Toba City in Mie Prefecture, won a silver medal in the men's epee team event and visited the Mie Prefectural Office on the afternoon of the 27th to report his achievement.
During his visit, he was awarded the "Mie Prefecture Sports Honor Award" by Governor Ichimi in recognition of his silver medal.
Yamada expressed his feelings, saying, "Of course, I wanted to win the gold medal, but I feel relieved to have brought something back in tangible form."
Looking ahead, Yamada pledged to aim for the gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in four years.
