YOKOHAMA, May 28 (News On Japan) - Nissan Motor has revealed that it paid a total of 646 million yen in resignation-related compensation to four former executive officers, including former President Uchida.
Uchida stepped down at the end of March following deteriorating business performance and the collapse of merger talks with Honda.
According to Nissan’s notice of convocation for its upcoming general shareholders meeting, the combined payout to the four departing executives, including Uchida, amounted to 646 million yen.
In its full-year financial results for the previous fiscal year, Nissan posted a net loss of 670.8 billion yen.
As part of a restructuring plan aimed at revitalizing its business, the company has announced it will close 7 of its 17 global plants and cut 20,000 jobs by fiscal 2027.
The hefty payouts to top executives leaving amid a business downturn are likely to provoke a backlash from shareholders.
