OSAKA, May 29 (News On Japan) - Osaka University has announced it will accept up to 100 medical researchers from the United States in response to a policy by the Trump administration that suspended the acceptance of international students at Harvard University.
Following the U.S. government's move to halt student visa eligibility for Harvard, Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has called on domestic universities to consider support measures. In line with this, Osaka University revealed on May 29th that its Graduate School of Medicine will use a university budget of approximately 600 million to 1 billion yen to host up to 100 postdoctoral researchers from the U.S. for a period of one year.
Ishii, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, stated: "We hope these researchers will be able to fully utilize their abilities at Osaka University and further advance their research."
In addition to the medical field, Osaka University is also preparing to accept students in other disciplines who are unable to continue their studies abroad and is currently examining concrete plans to support them.
