FUKUOKA, Jul 23 (News On Japan) - To combat a rising number of voyeurism cases in Fukuoka’s Tenjin district, an “anti-voyeurism mirror” was installed on July 23rd beside an escalator at Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station.
The mirror, designed to offer a wide field of view, is intended to raise public awareness and deter inappropriate photography on station premises. The initiative was led by the We Love Tenjin Council, a community organization comprising local businesses, which collaborated with police to implement the measure.
A representative from the council said, “Unfortunately, voyeurism is still happening daily. We hope this mirror will help reduce the number of victims and allow people to use the station with peace of mind.”
According to Fukuoka Prefectural Police, there were 110 reported voyeurism cases in the prefecture from January through the end of June this year—10 more than the same period last year. Many of these incidents occurred on escalators or staircases.
