Oct 01 (News On Japan) - A Spanish tourist in Japan has become the subject of widespread criticism after a series of videos showed him pushing a passenger on a train, firing fireworks at a karaoke shop, and intruding into a shrine, with condemnation spreading even to his home country.
The incident on a train occurred on September 22nd, when the man sat in a priority seat and began livestreaming. A passenger seated behind him approached and, after prodding the man in the chest, told him to quiet down. When the passenger repeated his warning, the streamer suddenly shoved him, knocking him back into his seat. The man shouted, “You better be ready, remember this!” as station staff arrived. He was ordered to move to a seat under the conductor’s supervision, and the delay caused the train to run five minutes late at JR Tosu Station in Saga Prefecture.
The man’s other videos showed further reckless behavior. In one, he fired rocket fireworks toward a karaoke establishment, a dangerous act that could have caused serious injuries. In another, believed to have been filmed at a shrine in Aomori Prefecture, he and his companions entered the building without permission, examined objects inside, and shook the offering box.
The backlash has not been limited to Japan. Comments from Spain included, “This is unforgivable,” and “You attacked a man, no excuse is acceptable.”
Following the uproar, the man posted an apology video online, admitting his actions were “wrong and terrible,” though he insisted that pushing the passenger had been an act of self-defense.
JR Kyushu told the program “It!” that disruptive or unsafe acts inside trains are prohibited and urged passengers to refrain from such behavior. The broadcaster requested an interview with the man, but he has yet to respond.
