TOKYO, Nov 02 (News On Japan) - The recipients of this autumn’s Medals of Honor have been announced, with film director Junji Sakamoto, known for works such as 'A Chorus of Angels,' received the Medal with Purple Ribbon, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the fields of art, culture, and sports.
Set in a remote island in Hokkaido, 'A Chorus of Angels' follows a former elementary school teacher, portrayed by Sayuri Yoshinaga, who reunites with her six former students after many years. The gathering brings back memories of a tragic incident that occurred during their childhood — an event that shattered their close-knit classroom and forced the teacher to leave the island.
As the group reconnects, long-buried secrets gradually resurface, revealing the emotional scars and guilt each of them has carried. Through their encounters, the film explores themes of forgiveness, memory, and redemption against the backdrop of Hokkaido’s rugged, wintry landscape.
Meanwhile, Yokoyama, who has recorded 2,989 wins over his 40-year career—ranking second in Japan’s racing history—and contributed to the development of the Japan Racing Association, was awarded the Medal with Yellow Ribbon, given to individuals who have dedicated their lives to their profession.
This autumn, a total of 738 individuals and 24 organizations received Medals of Honor.
