Actor Hiroya Shimizu Admits to Possessing Marijuana

TOKYO, Dec 08 (News On Japan) - Actor Hiroya Shimizu admitted in court on December 8th to charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act after being accused of possessing dried marijuana at his home in Tokyo’s Suginami Ward in September, acknowledging the indictment by saying in court that the allegations were “not mistaken.”

Shimizu had been arrested and indicted earlier for keeping a quantity of dried marijuana at his residence.

In the defendant questioning session, Shimizu explained that he used the marijuana “mainly for stress relief and relaxation,” adding that he deeply regretted disappointing people around him, including fans, saying “I cannot regret enough that my foolish actions betrayed their expectations,” and vowed that he would “never use illegal drugs again.”

Shimizu’s older brother also appeared in court and testified that the actor had “shed tears and reflected deeply” after being released on bail. Prosecutors sought a one-year custodial sentence, and the trial concluded on the same day.
