TOKYO, Mar 09 (News On Japan) - Real wages in Japan turned positive for the first time in 13 months in January, rising 1.4% from a year earlier after accounting for inflation, according to data released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Total cash earnings, which represent nominal wages, increased 3.0% year-on-year to 301,314 yen.
The improvement was driven in part by a 3.0% rise in regular wages, which mainly consist of base salaries, marking the fastest growth rate in about 33 years.
In addition to stronger wage growth, the pace of price increases slowed compared with previous months, helping push real wages into positive territory after more than a year of declines.
