TOKYO, Apr 01 (News On Japan) - The Japanese government is stepping up efforts to expand overseas markets for fashion and cosmetics as part of its broader Cool Japan strategy, with discussions held on March 31st to review progress toward its goals.
The Liberal Democratic Party’s Intellectual Property Strategy Committee confirmed the current status of government initiatives aimed at promoting Japanese cultural industries abroad, with a target of expanding overseas business to a scale of 50 trillion yen by 2033.
In addition to the strong performance of content sectors such as anime, the meeting focused on challenges facing Japan-origin fashion brands and cosmetics in generating revenue in international markets.
Committee chairman Taku Otsuka said, "We want to build an economy where Japan can earn solidly from intangible assets such as branding."
