KYOTO - A new large ferry linking Maizuru in Kyoto Prefecture with Otaru in Hokkaido has been unveiled ahead of its first voyage on September 1, offering spacious passenger facilities and a journey time of about 21 hours.
Shin Nihonkai Ferry's Hamanasu measures 199 meters in length and weighs about 14,000 tons.
The vessel features a three-story atrium at its entrance and a two-story salon offering panoramic views of the sea, creating an open and spacious interior.
Its restaurant will serve menus featuring seasonal ingredients associated with the ports along the route.
Passengers can also use a screen room featuring projection-mapping technology designed to provide an immersive visual experience.
The Hamanasu is scheduled to begin service between Maizuru and Otaru on September 1.
