Abe on 'One Belt And One Road' initiative

Jun 06 (NHK) - Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he hopes that China's "One Belt, One Road" economic initiative will be realized along the lines of international rules.

Abe made the remark while addressing political and business leaders from other Asian nations at a conference in Tokyo on Monday.

Abe said the initiative has potential to connect East and West as well as the diverse regions found in between.

He added that he hopes the initiative will come into harmony with the free and fair trans-Pacific economic zone and contribute to the peace and prosperity of the region and the world.

Abe said he would cooperate in China's effort from this point of view.

He also said he has not given up on the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade deal despite the US decision to leave the pact.
