Jun 08 (Japan Times) - The Universal Studios Japan theme park in Osaka plans to add a new area featuring Nintendo characters and worlds, which was unveiled at a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday.
Super Nintendo World will have rides, shops and restaurants, including a Mario Kart race game, the park operator said.
The new area is set to open in 2020. More than ¥60 billion will be invested.
During Thursday's ceremony, Nintendo's iconic character Mario made an appearance. Clad in red work overalls, he jumped to hit a yellow question block - just like in the eponymous game - setting off fireworks to kick off the start of construction.
