Jun 11 (NHK) - The US military says an emergency landing of the Osprey transport aircraft at an airport southwestern Japan was a precautionary measure to avoid any accident.
The tilt-rotor plane landed at Amami Airport in Japan's southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima on Saturday night.
The prefectural government says the aircraft's fuselage is intact and that no one was hurt.
Officials at Japan's defense authorities in Okinawa say the aircraft is based at the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Station in Okinawa. They add the plane was engaged in training off the Amami islands.
They also quoted the US military as saying that the aircraft made the emergency landing using routine procedures.
