Jul 01 (NHK) - Japanese motorists are seeing a rollout of new bilingual road signs. The program by traffic authorities comes amid a rise in foreign tourist numbers.
At a ceremony in Kyoto's Gion entertainment district, apprentice geisha, called "Maiko", posed with tourists beside a new model stop sign. It has the English word beneath the Japanese. Organizers also unveiled an English-language slow-down sign.
The sign replacement program will cover the nation, starting with popular tourist destinations.
