Jul 05 (NHK) - Severe tropical storm Nanmadol is bringing heavy rain to western Japan.
The Meteorological Agency says Nanmadol was moving east-northeast at 65 kilometers per hour at 3 AM on Wednesday.
The storm made landfall near Nagasaki in the western region of Kyushu on Tuesday morning.
Wide areas from western to eastern Japan are being pounded by heavy rain due to the storm and a seasonal front hovering over the Sea of Japan.
In Hakuba Village, central Japan, the rainfall since Friday has exceeded 450 millimeters, or 1.5 times the average for July.
Officials have issued mudslide warnings for some prefectures.
They are urging residents to be on the alert for mudslides, floods, swollen rivers, lightning, sudden gusts and high waves.
