Jul 05 (NHK) - The Japanese government says it plans to spend the proceeds from planned casinos for the public good.
The government on Tuesday presented its proposals for spending casino earnings to a panel designing the overall system.
According to the proposals, the government will collect entrance fees and some proceeds from operators of so-called integrated resorts that include casinos.
The money will then be allocated to the central government and to local authorities where the facilities are located. The funds will be earmarked for activities that benefit the public, such as promoting tourism, welfare, and cultural programs.
The proposals also say money collected from operators will fund a casino management committee that will oversee them.
The government is considering giving the committee powers in granting casino licenses.
