Enabling ink dots to become idfentification tags

Jul 20 (NHK) - Major Japanese electronics maker NEC is introducing an innovative verification system that is based on an ordinary glitter pen.

It says the technology aims to help businesses keep track of their products easily and at a low cost.

The glitter pen is used to put a tiny dot on a product.

The dot contains glitter in a fingerprint-like pattern that can be registered in the system as unique.

A smartphone camera application can then identify anything marked by the pen, working like a barcode reader.

Officials say any glitter pen will do the job and that counterfeiting the unique patterns is almost impossible.
