Minister urges vigilance for attacks on Olympics

Jun 07 (NHK) - Japan's Justice Minister has ordered the heads of public security intelligence bureaus across the country to gather information to protect the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics from terrorism and cyberattacks.

Kamikawa Yoko convened an online meeting on Monday ahead of the Olympics that are set to begin next month.

The minister said terror attacks have occurred around the world, and doctrines and claims made by international terrorist groups have spread online.

She said malicious activities in cyberspace also pose serious threats.

Kamikawa said this requires Japan to tighten security, as the Tokyo Games are approaching.

She told the heads of regional intelligence bureaus and other officials to work closely with the relevant organizations in Japan and overseas to gather and analyze information.

The head of the Public Security Intelligence Agency, Wada Masaki, urged officials to take measures against the coronavirus and to step up their information gathering and analysis.
