Gempa Hari Senin di Jepang Hampir Sekuat Gempa Besar Tahun 2011

ISHIKAWA, Jan 09 (News on Japan) - Ahli seismologi Jepang memperkirakan bahwa gempa bumi yang baru-baru ini terjadi di Prefektur Ishikawa hampir sama kuatnya dengan gempa bumi besar yang menimbulkan goncangan hebat dan tsunami besar di lepas pantai timur Jepang pada tahun 2011.

Gempa pada hari Senin mengguncang Kota Shika dengan kekuatan 7 SR, merupakan yang tertinggi dalam skala Jepang.

Para pejabat di Badan Meteorologi Jepang mengatakan bahwa data seismometer dari kota tersebut menunjukkan bahwa gempa tersebut berkekuatan 2.825,8 gal. Gal adalah satuan percepatan yang menunjukkan intensitas guncangan tanah.

Angka ini hampir sama dengan 2.933,7 gal pada gempa tahun 2011.

Pengukuran ini juga menunjukkan bahwa gempa pada Hari Tahun Baru jauh lebih kuat daripada gempa mematikan di masa lalu yang mengguncang Jepang dengan intensitas 7 SR.

Gempa Bumi Besar Hanshin-Awaji tahun 1995 di Jepang bagian barat tercatat memiliki kekuatan 891 SR, sedangkan gempa yang melanda Prefektur Niigata pada tahun 2004 memiliki kekuatan 1.722 SR. Gempa yang melanda Prefektur Kumamoto pada tahun 2016 berkekuatan 1.791,3 gal.

Para pejabat badan tersebut mengatakan bahwa tingkat akselerasi saja tidak menentukan seberapa dahsyatnya sebuah gempa bumi, tetapi mereka mengatakan bahwa akselerasi gempa pada hari Senin sangat besar.
