TOKYO, Jan 17 (News On Japan) - In Noda Village, Iwate Prefecture, the 'Namomi,' wearing demon masks, go from house to house, raising their voices in a New Year's tradition. The event is held to pray for the healthy growth of children and the safety of households.
After losing all their masks and costumes to the tsunami caused by the East Japan Earthquake, they consulted with locals from Akita Prefecture, home to the similar 'Namahage' tradition, who agreed to help. They received Namahage costumes and tools, allowing them to continue their cherished tradition.
