Dokter Dihukum 18 Tahun karena Membantu Bunuh Diri Pasien ALS

Mar 06 (News On Japan) - Seorang dokter telah dihukum 18 tahun penjara oleh Pengadilan Distrik Kyoto karena melakukan pembunuhan terhadap seorang wanita yang mengalami penyakit tak dapat sembuh, ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), sesuai dengan keinginannya.

Yuichi Okubo (45 tahun) didakwa bersama dengan mantan dokter lainnya atas tuduhan membunuh seorang pasien ALS (berusia 51 tahun pada saat kejadian) di Kota Kyoto pada tahun 2019. Mereka didakwa melakukan tindakan tersebut sesuai dengan permintaan pasien, yang dianggap sebagai kejahatan bunuh diri dengan bantuan.

Selama persidangan, Dr. Okubo mengakui bahwa tindakannya dilakukan untuk memenuhi keinginan wanita tersebut. Meskipun pembela berpendapat bahwa menghukumnya karena bunuh diri yang dibantu tidak sesuai dengan konstitusi, jaksa penuntut menuntut hukuman penjara selama 23 tahun, termasuk dakwaan pembunuhan terhadap ayah mantan dokter yang terlibat.

Pada tanggal 5, Pengadilan Distrik Kyoto memutuskan bahwa Dr. Okubo setuju dengan permintaan hanya berdasarkan percakapan singkat di media sosial dan dengan sembrono melakukan pembunuhan. Pengadilan menyatakan bahwa sulit untuk percaya bahwa ia benar-benar memiliki kepentingan terbaik bagi korban, dan bahwa kejahatan tersebut dilakukan untuk keuntungan pribadi, sehingga ia dijatuhi hukuman penjara selama 18 tahun.

Setelah putusan tersebut, ayah korban mengatakan, "Kasus putri saya telah membawa penyakit ALS ke perhatian publik dan menyoroti mereka yang berjuang melawannya. Saya berharap tidak akan ada orang kedua atau ketiga yang mengalami hal yang sama seperti putri saya."
