TOKYO, Aug 19 (News On Japan) - Tokyo Bay's waters have taken on a pale blue hue due to a phenomenon known as 'blue tide.' This occurs when a large amount of plankton dies and sinks to the bottom of the sea, leading to a decrease in oxygen levels in the water. Strong winds then cause the oxygen-depleted water to rise, resulting in the change in color.
According to Chiba Prefecture, the "blue tide" was observed this morning at locations such as Funabashi Port and Chiba Port on the northern side of Tokyo Bay. The phenomenon is believed to be caused by the strong winds from Typhoon No. 7.
So far, no damage has been reported as a result of the blue tide.
