Oct 07 (News On Japan) - A painting of a man floating in water has recently gone viral on social media. The sunlight reflected off the water makes it look as if it is genuinely shining, prompting many on social media to ask, ‘How is this painting glowing without any lights?’
Due to its stunning realism, some speculated that lights were embedded within the artwork. Since its video release, it has been viewed more than 7.5 million times.
Ryo Kuwamiya was interviewed to uncover the secret behind the glowing effect.
Kuwamiya: 'When you apply paint in thin layers, it glows. If you magnify paint significantly, you’ll see it's semi-transparent, like cellophane or glass. When these layers build up, they let external light pass through, creating the illusion of glowing.'
By using gray paint to create a base with highlights and shadows, and then applying multiple layers of color, Kuwamiya achieves a painting that appears to shine.
This glowing painting, inspired by a dream, takes about two weeks to complete.
Reflecting on the response, Kuwamiya said, 'I'm grateful. I want to dive deeper into this dreamlike world and connect with those who share the same sense of wonder.'
