Behind the Counter at a Japanese Father & Daughter Izakaya Restaurant

Apr 19 (Paolo fromTOKYO) - This is behind the counter at Taruya, a Japanese father and daughter run Traditional style Teppan Okonomiyaki izakaya aka drinking restaurant, that’s been around for almost 100 years.

It’s tucked away in Hyakkendana, a hidden little area between Dogenzaka and Bukamura, once the busiest part of Shibuya…back in the day before 109 and even the famous Shibuya scramble crossing ever existed. This Tokyo restaurant has a warm, homey vibe often found in Japan’s countryside and today we’ll get a rare glimpse at how this family has kept their business running for generations.
