OSAKA, Apr 25 (News On Japan) - Construction of the Integrated Resort (IR) complex in Yumeshima, Osaka—adjacent to the site of the 2025 World Expo—began on April 24th, with plans to open the facility in five years.
A groundbreaking ceremony held on April 24th was attended by Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura and representatives of the operating company, who marked the official start of construction.
The IR project, with a total investment of approximately 1.3 trillion yen, will span around 49 hectares and include a casino, international conference center, hotels, and other facilities. It is located right next to the Expo venue.
While some had called for construction to be paused during the Expo period, authorities plan to continue work while minimizing disruption, such as reducing the number of construction vehicles.
Yoshimura stated, "I am confident that this will become a catalyst for further economic growth in Osaka."
The resort is expected to generate over 1 trillion yen in annual economic impact, with the official opening targeted for autumn 2030.
