HYOGO, Aug 18 (News On Japan) - The 26th Scarecrow Festival has opened in Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture, where rows of hand-made scarecrows keep the location alive as a cultural landmark even after the loss of its original educational role.
The venue is the grounds of the closed Kamosho Elementary School, where 52 scarecrows were set up. Highlights included figures modeled after baseball star Shohei Ohtani and designs inspired by the Osaka Expo mascot Myaku-Myaku, as well as rice-themed creations.
Visitors expressed admiration for the artistry, with one saying, "The old rice theme is really clever," while another commented, "Seeing all the different ideas made me want to try making one myself."
The Scarecrow Festival runs through August 23rd, with outstanding works scheduled to be recognized at the local summer festival on the same day.
