HOKKAIDO, Sep 09 (News On Japan) - A bear was seen crossing railway tracks in Sunagawa, Hokkaido, on Monday morning, marking the ninth consecutive day of bear appearances in the area, prompting nearby schools to take extra precautions for children.
At around 6:30 a.m. in the Hokko district, the animal was observed walking from the railway tracks into a grassy area.
Reports of bears have continued to emerge since late August. On September 8th, the streak reached nine consecutive days.
At Hokko Elementary School, parents drove children to and from school, while some pupils returned home in jumbo taxis arranged by the city. One parent said, "Outdoor play is restricted, and the children have to stay home. Taking them to and from school is also difficult."
In response to the repeated sightings, the Hokkaido government has issued a brown bear advisory for Sunagawa, effective until October 7th.
