TAIPEI, Sep 22 (News On Japan) - A ceremony was held in Taipei on September 21st to mark the establishment of the Abe Shinzo Research Center at National Chengchi University, dedicated to studying the former prime minister’s diplomatic strategies with a particular focus on relations with Taiwan.
According to the Presidential Office, the inauguration took place on Abe’s birthday. The center aims to examine his approach to foreign policy, which emphasized strengthening ties with Taiwan, while also serving as a platform for broader academic exchange between the two sides.
President Lai Ching-te attended the ceremony along with Abe’s widow, Akie. Lai stated, “Abe’s death was not only a loss for Japan but also for Taiwan and the world,” adding that he hopes the center will become an important platform for future Japan-Taiwan cooperation.
Taiwanese media reported that Akie expressed her sentiments by saying, “I came to Taiwan with my husband’s wishes in mind. I felt how deeply he was trusted and loved by the people of Taiwan.”
