AICHI, Mar 04 (News On Japan) - A training exercise simulating a suspicious individual carrying a knife was conducted at a train station in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture, as preparations continue for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games scheduled to take place mainly across the prefecture this autumn.
The drill was held at JR Kasugai Station and involved about 30 participants, including police officers and station staff.
During the exercise, station employees discovered a man inside the station carrying a knife and called 110 to alert authorities while guiding passengers to evacuate the premises.
Police officers who arrived at the scene then subdued the man using batons and shields.
Masashi Ishikawa of the Community Affairs Division at the Kasugai Police Station said the exercise was highly meaningful because it gave station staff an opportunity to consider how they should respond in the time before police officers arrive.
In Kasugai, competitions for handball and golf are scheduled to be held as part of the Asian Games.
