Mother Leaves Third-Grade Son Alone for Two Weeks in Apartment

TOKYO, Jan 17 (News On Japan) - A 25-year-old mother has been arrested for abandoning her son, a third-grader, in their apartment in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, for about two weeks.

The suspect is accused of leaving her son alone from around October 27th last year for about two weeks in their home apartment, leading to suspicions of abandonment by a guardian.

The case came to light on November 9th when the son sought help from a neighbor, saying, 'Mom hasn't come back' and 'the lights in the house won't turn on.'

The mother was reportedly at her boyfriend's house in Ebina City during this time.

During the investigation, the woman admitted to the accusations, saying, 'There is no mistake,' and mentioned that she was struggling with how to deal with her child.
