Aug 16 (the-japan-news.com) - In telephone talks held Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed their cooperation to deal with a possible North Korean missile launch that might travel over Japan toward waters off Guam.
In the about 30-minute telephone conference, the leaders of the two countries agreed to maintain their close cooperation - and their cooperation with South Korea - to strongly urge China and Russia to exercise their influence on North Korea to prevent Pyongyang from going ahead with a launch of ballistic missiles.
After the telephone conversation, Abe told reporters at the Prime Minister's Office, "We've agreed it is most important to prevent North Korea from going through with launching missiles."
Abe added: "To be prepared for every possible situation, we'll make utmost efforts to ensure the safety of the public by establishing advanced monitoring and missile defense systems under the solid Japan-U.S. alliance."
