Aug 05 (NHK) - A strong earthquake has rocked Japan's northeastern prefectures of Fukushima and Miyagi. There is no threat of tsunami.
The Meteorological Agency says the quake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck at 7:23 p.m. on Sunday. It says the focus of the quake was about 45 kilometers deep off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.
On Japan's seismic intensity scale from zero to seven, the quake registered 5 minus in Futaba Town in Fukushima Prefecture and Ishinomaki City and Watari Town, both in Miyagi Prefecture.
Tokyo Electric Power Company says it has found no abnormalities with the reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power plants.
The website of East Japan Railway Company shows that as of 7:45 p.m., the Yamagata Shinkansen bullet train service remained suspended between Fukushima Station and Yonezawa Station.
