May 15 (NHK) - A survey by Japan's education ministry shows that 86 percent of kindergartens and schools have remained closed during the state of emergency due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The survey also showed that 87 percent of national and public schools and 76 percent of private schools remained closed as of Monday.
Asked about the number of days that students were instructed to assemble at school despite the closures, the survey says 27 percent did so once a week, and 21 percent have two or more days per week.
It adds that 19 percent of schools are considering introducing such a measure, while 33 percent do not set such days.
The survey also shows 80 percent of schools plan to end closures between May 25 and 31, while 16 percent plan to do so by May 24. Three percent say they have not decided yet.
