Feb 06 (Nikkei) - Japanese hotel operator New Otani began a campaign in January featuring rooms and cuisine on the theme of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba," a popular anime series.
The company hopes associating its hotels with the series will pull in new customers as the number of business travelers plummets due to COVID-19.
The campaign will run through the end of March at six New Otani hotels across Japan, including Hotel New Otani Tokyo in Chiyoda Ward. The first floor of the New Otani Tokyo's main building has been entirely redone in "Demon Slayer" accents: Guest rooms and hallways are decorated with characters from the series, allowing guests to enter the world of the anime from the moment they step off the elevators.
Panels emblazoned with "Demon Slayer" characters are set up inside guest rooms; cushion covers and other accouterments have designs evoking the anime. Items featuring characters from the series liven up bathrooms, letting people immerse themselves in "Demon Slayer" throughout their stay. Single rooms at Hotel New Otani Tokyo start at 44,300 yen ($385) a night.
Novelty goods exclusively for hotel guests are available for purchase, and guests can take home their room keys, which feature "Demon Slayer" characters. Postcards and stickers are also available.
