Intense cold wave hits Japan, snow to reach 1 meter

SAPPORO, Nov 30 (News On Japan) - Northern Japan witnessed its coldest temperatures of the season Thursday morning, as snow begins to accumulate rapidly, set to surpass 1 meter for the first time this winter.

A strong cold air mass has moved across the Japanese archipelago, creating wintery atmospheric conditions.

In Rikubetsu, Hokkaido, the minimum temperature dropped to -13.9°C, marking the lowest temperature of the season nationwide.

In urban areas like Aomori and Morioka, snowfall has intensified, resulting in the heaviest snow accumulation this winter.

In Sukayu, Aomori Prefecture, there is a possibility that the snow accumulation could exceed one meter for the first time this season nationwide on Nov 30.

Vigilance is advised in northern Japan due to potential slip hazards and icy roads resulting from snow accumulation.
