TOKYO, Jul 12 (News On Japan) - A theft group has been arrested for stealing sports cars and luxury vehicles in the Kanto region. The losses amount to over 300 cars, valued at approximately 780 million yen.
A 26-year-old Pakistani national and three others have been arrested and indicted for stealing sports cars and luxury vehicles.
According to police, the four individuals stole 323 vehicles, including sports cars and luxury cars, and attempted to steal an additional 13 vehicles over a four-year period starting in 2019.
The group used a specialized device called a key programmer to repeatedly steal vehicles in Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures. For cars that had their steering wheels removed as a preventive measure, they installed replacement steering wheels they had prepared in advance.
The stolen sports cars were sold off for parts at auctions, while the luxury cars were sold to other foreigners.
