BANGKOK, Jul 26 (News On Japan) - A Japanese man has been detained at a Thai airport for attempting to smuggle over 200 more scorpions, spiders, and other insects than he declared.
According to Thai customs authorities, the man in his 60s was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on July 16th while in possession of boxes filled with a large number of scorpions, spiders, frogs, and other creatures.
The man had five boxes in total, which also contained beetles and ants.
Although the man had permission to bring up to 250 insects from Thailand to Japan, the boxes held approximately 500 creatures worth about 400,000 yen.
It is reported that the man intended to purchase scorpions and other insects in Thailand for resale in Japan.
