CHIBA, Jul 29 (News On Japan) - A worker has died after being buried in hot ash while performing maintenance on an exhaust gas purification system at a glass factory in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture.
At around 11:30 a.m. Monday, a report was made from the Chiba Plant of Nippon Sheet Glass in Ichihara, stating, 'A worker is buried under ash.'
According to the police, several workers were inside the device to maintain the equipment that removes sulfur dioxide from gases emitted during the glass production process.
While removing accumulated ash, a male worker in his 50s was buried in the hot ash. He was rescued by firefighters but was pronounced dead.
The temperature of the ash was estimated to be around 50 degrees Celsius. Three other male workers suffered burns and were taken to the hospital.
The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident.
