TOKYO, Aug 19 (News On Japan) - Emperor attended an opera performance at the 'Suntory Music Award Commemorative Concert' on Saturday, featuring a performance of the German composer Handel's opera 'Rinaldo,' conducted by Yoshimichi Hamada.
The Emperor arrived at Suntory Hall in Minato Ward, Tokyo, around 4 p.m., where he repeatedly nodded in response to the applause from the attendees.
According to the Imperial Household Agency, the Emperor had previously collaborated with Hamada at a concert, where he participated as a viola player during his time as Crown Prince.
Throughout the 'The 53rd Suntory Music Award Commemorative Concert,' the Emperor attentively listened to the music conducted by Hamada, joining the approximately 1,500 audience members in applause after each aria -- a solo vocal piece in the opera.
Before leaving the venue, the Emperor shared his impressions with the attending officials, saying, 'It was a truly wonderful performance that I thoroughly enjoyed.'
