TOKYO, Aug 28 (News On Japan) - Yoshinoya, a major beef bowl chain, has unveiled a new product featuring ostrich meat amid concerns about a potential global protein shortage. Starting on Wednesday, Yoshinoya Holdings will begin selling a bowl dish made with ostrich meat, priced at 1,530 yen before tax.
The dish took approximately 10 years to develop, and the company has decided to launch it now, as stable supply is expected.
With the economic growth of emerging countries and population increases, it has been pointed out that there could be a global protein shortage by the middle of this century. Additionally, Yoshinoya plans to fully enter the beauty industry by launching cosmetics made from ostrich oil, which they had previously sold on an experimental basis.
