KYOTO, May 16 (News On Japan) - A car crashed into a residential fence in Kyoto City after first hitting a utility pole and veering erratically for several hundred meters, according to local police. The incident occurred in a quiet residential area, where a witness who heard a strange noise captured the scene on video as the vehicle approached and came to a halt after plowing into the home’s boundary fence.
The witness said the driver appeared bloodied and dazed, with his face covered in blood and his arms wrapped around a deployed airbag while still gripping the steering wheel. Retracing the vehicle’s path, the witness found extensive damage to the base of a utility pole and the exterior wall of a house, which had been severely damaged in the impact.
Authorities believe the car first struck the house and then collided with the pole before continuing to swerve erratically for several hundred meters. The witness reported that the vehicle fled the scene while they were on the phone reporting the incident.
The car was later located several hundred meters away, visibly damaged with a deep dent at the front. Multiple police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterward, but the driver had already fled on foot.
Minutes later, a man appeared at the scene and told police he had been the one driving the vehicle. Officers confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Police are currently investigating whether the man was indeed behind the wheel and the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
No injuries were reported.
