TOKYO, May 28 (News On Japan) - Tokyo police have arrested four more suspects in connection with an extortion scheme that used a matchmaking app designed for people with disabilities to lure victims to a bar and demand excessive payments.
The suspects include Shunta Suzuki, a self-described nightlife business operator, and three other men and women. According to investigators, in February, the group used the app to contact a man with a physical disability and invited him to the bar "Queen" in Shibuya, where they allegedly demanded 250,000 yen in cash for food and drinks and later confined him in a sauna facility in Tokyo.
Police say the suspects took the man's smartphone to monitor his actions and, by the following morning, forced him to sign multiple contracts with consumer finance companies. The group is believed to have obtained a total of 2.42 million yen through this scheme.
The victim, who wears leg braces and has difficulty walking, told police he was unable to flee. Suzuki reportedly admitted to the charges, stating that he "gave instructions based on a manual."
