KYOTO, Sep 01 (News On Japan) - Police are investigating a theft at To-ji, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Kyoto, after an offertory box was found missing. At around 1:50 p.m. on August 30, a monk reported to a nearby police box that the entire offertory box had disappeared.
The wooden box, placed in front of Bishamondo Hall on the temple grounds, measures 31 centimeters in height and 46 centimeters in width. It was last confirmed on August 24.
The amount of cash inside is unknown, but the box itself is valued at about 200,000 yen. Security camera footage shows someone carrying the offertory box away, and police are investigating the case as theft.
