TOKYO, Sep 09 (News On Japan) - Mitsubishi Electric will introduce a voluntary retirement program targeting employees aged 53 and older, as well as those rehired after retirement, despite posting record profits in fiscal 2025.
The company announced that the move is aimed at rejuvenating its workforce in line with business model reforms. Of its 42,000 employees, around 10,000 fall under the eligibility criteria, though Mitsubishi Electric has not set a target number of retirements.
Applicants will receive enhanced retirement benefits, including additional severance pay, and the company will also offer job placement support for those who request it.
The decision comes as other major Japanese companies take similar steps. Panasonic Holdings, which also reported a net profit, has announced plans to reduce its workforce by about 10,000 employees. The wave of so-called “profitable restructuring” is spreading across corporate Japan.
