Aug 15 (NHK) - A small aircraft crashed in a mountainous area of Nara Prefecture, western Japan, on Monday afternoon.
Police said two bodies were found near the wreckage. Their identities have not been confirmed, but police say they are likely the pilot, Ryoichi Tanaka, 68 and his wife Sachiko, 55.
A resident in the village of Yamazoe alerted the police that a plane had crashed nearby. Rescuers found the burning plane in a forest near the village.
Officials say the French-made SOCATA TMB700 aircraft took off from Yao Airport in Osaka at around noon on Monday. It was heading for Fukushima Airport in northeastern Japan.
About 15 minutes after takeoff, the pilot radioed to air traffic control that he was returning to Yao. The plane disappeared from radar screens around 3 minutes later.
