Tokyo Disneyland marks 35th anniversary

Apr 16 (NHK) - A ceremony was held at Tokyo Disneyland on Sunday to celebrate its 35th anniversary.

Toshio Kagami, the chairman of park operator Oriental Land, said plans are underway to expand the popular amusement park, which is located in the city of Urayasu, near Tokyo.

A total of 720 million people over the years have visited Tokyo Disneyland and nearby Tokyo DisneySea, which opened in 2001.

Many fans hope the expansion will ease congestion at Tokyo Disneyland.

Oriental Land executive Ryoichi Miyauchi said the scale and timeline of the expansion haven't been set.

Many visitors took pictures of decorations at the park to mark the occasion. One woman in her 20s said she works hard every day so she can visit Tokyo Disneyland. She said she hopes it will become even more fun after the expansion.
