Body of Estranged Wife Discovered in Bathroom, Husband Later Found Dead

TOKYO - The body of a woman in her 30s, who had been separated from her husband for about a year and had recently been living alone in an apartment in Adachi, was found dead in the bathroom of her ex-husband's house on Thursday.

Just before 2 AM on June 6, the woman’s relatives reported to the police that they had been unable to contact her.

When police arrived at the husband’s house, they found the woman’s body in the bathroom. She was found kneeling in the washing area with her clothes on, and her upper body was submerged in a bathtub filled with water.

There were no noticeable wounds on the woman’s body, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

What exactly happened at her husband’s house?

'Loud Noises Heard by Neighbors'

The day before the woman’s body was found, neighbors reported that unusual events had taken place at the house.

Neighbor: '(The woman) came. When the doorbell rang, (the man) came out. I was watching from the second floor while hanging laundry.'

After the woman entered the house, about 30 minutes later, loud noises were heard.

Neighbor: 'There was a huge noise. It sounded like they were arguing, and voices were heard from the direction of the bathroom. I heard sounds like “Hya” and “Kya.” Several times there were sounds like someone hitting the wall. I thought the wall might break because the sound was so loud. After a while, it became quiet.'

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police believe the possibility of third-party involvement is low, as the front door of the husband’s house was locked at the time, and they were interviewing the husband.

On June 7, the situation took a sudden turn.

According to investigators, around 11 AM, the husband was found collapsed in the grounds of an apartment complex in Kawaguchi, Saitama, and was later confirmed dead. It is believed he jumped from the fifth floor of the complex, which is his parents’ home.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
