TOKYO, Jul 22 (News On Japan) - The fireworks festival scheduled to be held in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, was canceled approximately 20 minutes before it was set to begin due to the threat of lightning.
The Arakawa riverside in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, was set to host the 'Adachi Fireworks' festival on July 20th, with around 13,000 fireworks to be launched from 7:20 p.m. However, about 20 minutes before the start, the event was called off.
According to Adachi Ward and other organizers, announcements were made at the venue urging attendees to return home, and security staff guided the crowd. It was reported that there was no significant confusion.
Last year, approximately 740,000 people attended the 'Adachi Fireworks', and a similar turnout was expected this year. The decision was made with a primary focus on human life, considering the threat of lightning.
In the Kanto region, the atmospheric conditions were unstable, and from the afternoon of July 20th, various areas, including Tokyo, experienced sudden heavy rain accompanied by lightning.
